Most of my life, I didn’t know much about God, Jesus, or the bible’s countless verses
But I remembered John 3:16; it stayed with me through life’s many challenging courses
How it just smoldered there within me and occasionally was brought to mind
That God so loved the world, He sacrificed the most precious thing He could find
I use to quote it, to prove I knew about Him, but I never really understood
The sacrifice He made for my salvation; the key to my future and livelihood
Over time the light from that one passage grew into a blaze that consumed my heart
He knew it would, all those many years ago when he placed it there from the start
I always felt that He was with me, but never quite sure if my eternity was in danger
The Spirit made it clear when I accepted the truth about Jesus from His beginning in the manger
For I’ve always believed, prayed, and had faith in God in good times and times of strife
But it was by God’s grace and belief in His Son that I secured the promise of an everlasting life
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
