” Therefore put on the whole armour of God, so that you may be able to stand your ground in the evil day, and having fought to the end, to remain victors in the field. Stand therefore, first fastening round you the belt of truth and putting on the breastplate of righteousness as well as the shoes of the gospel of peace - a firm foundation for your feet. Above all take the shield of Faith on which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one; and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Pray with unceasing prayer with all supplication in the Spirit, and be always alert to seize opportunities for doing so for all the saints“ (Ephesians 6:13-18)
These were Paul’s battle strategy for the church. Today these very words are still relevant in preparing us for times of persecution and adversity when they come.
Given, we are in a spiritual war, but consider this, we have the truth of the gospel and our right standing with God, through Christ. The peace that this glorious gospel brings makes
our hearts ready to wade through every trouble we encounter. Our faith in God secures us protection from attacks on our minds, through the helmet of our salvation. Above all, we have the sword, the spoken and declared word of God, right on our lips at our point of need helping us to wield this spiritual weapon with specificity in warfare.
So beloved, as long as we are on this earth, we will need to wear our armour and wield our sword. But take heart and soldier on, being assured that in the process of time, we will exchange this armour for our heavenly robe. Rejoice!
As we press in and pray, remember that our mighty warrior, the one who is great in battle is always with us until the very end.
Be encouraged!
