As beloved children of God, we are meant for better things - things that come with salvation rest.
Hebrews 4: 1-2 reminds us that a promise remains for us of entering into God’s rest, a historical rest that is to be enjoyed by every believer today! This rest is embodied at the hearing of the gospel, but hearing alone is not enough - it must be believed. In hearing the word, faith comes (Romans 10:17) and as we believe, the rest that is found in Christ follows us from now on until eternity. In our response to the gospel, salvation is given by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8).
As we journey on with the Lord, and in our sanctification through His Spirit, we have help to remain steadfast. In our fellowship with a Triune God, He prunes us to grow in fruit as disciples, ministering to and encouraging one another in the faith (Hebrews 6:9-10)
Our confidence is never in ourselves, but we look in faith to The One who promises. In Him our hope of the things promised is realised through patience (Hebrews 6:12).
Beloved of the Lord, be encouraged.
